Launching…Our Acne Transformation Program

It’s Acne Awareness Month and what a better way to shed light on one of most common skin conditions affecting millions of individuals worldwide.

What is acne?
Acne is an inflammatory skin disorder that can affect both men and women of all ages. It occurs when hair follicles become blocked with dead skin cells, oil and acne causing bacteria. Acne can be found on the face, neck, shoulders, chest and back and differs in severity from grade 1-4.

A recent study by Cutera (2024) identified the following data:

  • 90% of individuals suffering with acne reported experiencing daily insecurities related to their acne.

  • 43% of acne sufferers reported feelings of never being able to achieve clear skin.

  • 6 in 10 individuals reported that the struggle in treating acne can be worse than the acne itself.

What are the different types of acne lesions?

  • Blackheads - black dots commonly found in the T zone and occur when the oil in your pores oxidises.

  • Whiteheads - white dots with a ‘head’, common in an oily skin type and usually caused by a blocked hair follicle

  • Papules - red bumps caused by excess oil or dead skin cells integrate with bacteria, blocking the pore.

  • Pustules - very similar to a whitehead, identified with a pus-filled bubble on top and often people want to squeeze these

  • Cysts - large, red and pus-filled breakouts deep within the skin. Often very painful and caused by a pore that has become blocked and infected.

  • Nodules - found deep under the skin, they are solid, large and painful lumps. They rarely have a white head or blackhead and can last weeks or months to self resolve.

What are some of the triggers of acne?

A common misconception about acne is that its caused by dirty skin. This is completely a myth and rather is a combination of factors including a hormone imbalance, genetics, diet, lifestyle choices and stress levels.

What can I do to treat my acne?

Good question! Acne is commonly seen at our Sydney based clinic and we are well experienced in achieving clear skin results. We understand the detrimental effects acne can have on an individuals confidence and hence why we are formally launching our Acne Transformation Program.
